Elba Park

Elba Park in Sunderland boasts 53-hectares of public green space, providing a rich haven for wildlife.

Monkton Community Woodland

This community woodland spans 4.5km of tracks, with four wood woodland paths and more than 30,000 trees and shrubs. Formerly a cokeworks, Monkton Community Woodland provides a number of vital links between communities and a wonderful network of green spaces and wildlife, as well as providing opportunities for volunteering and health activities.

Northumberlandia

Northumberlandia is a unique piece of public art set in a 19-hectare community park providing free public access, with four miles of footpaths on and around the landform, along with a café and visitor centre. The park’s centrepiece is ‘The Lady of the North’, a stunning human landform sculpture of a reclining lady, scaling 100 feet in height and spanning a quarter of a mile.

Weetslade

This attractive 38-hectare park is on the site of the former Weetslade Colliery. With a number of diverse habitats that feature wetland, woodland and grassland, the park is attracting an increasing amount of wildlife, including otters. Spring brings the beautiful song of dozens of skylarks to the site, while in summer the aerial shows of the swallows, swifts and martins can be seen.
