This picturesque woodland, which spans 99-hectares, allows you to escape from the hustle and bustle of life. With its mixture of mature broadleaf woodland, large open meadows and a scenic wetland valley, Brodsworth is renowned for its diverse array of wildlife.
Summer sees an explosion of colour and the arrival of a host of butterflies such as the Common Blue, Meadow Brown and Peacock. A Long Eared Owl is resident in the woodland and Kestrels are often seen hovering above looking for prey. There are also some fascinating and intriguing sculptures nestled in the woodland, including a giant dragonfly, which appears almost magically as you climb one of the many woodlands hills.

When the colliery closed in the 1990s, the community suffered with high unemployment and health and social problems, compounded by the large area of derelict land which became a focus for antisocial behaviour.
The derelict and contaminated site was remediated by the regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward using funds from the Homes and Communities Agency’s National Coalfield Programme.
The Land Trust provided a sustainable and cost effective exit for the landowner, protects the money invested in restoring the land, covers environmental liability associated with the site’s history and secures the future of the open space for generations to come.
The Land Trust’s unique management model works in partnership with the local community to deliver a range of added value activities such Woodland Workouts which turn conservation activities into structured fitness classes to provide significant health and social benefits.
The Land Trust owns this site, but manages it in partnership with TCV.
