This delightfully rural green space was established in 2022/23 on former arable farmland. With expansive meadows and intimate ancient semi-natural Oak-Hazel-Bluebell woodland, the site offers plenty of interest for visitors. Native hedgerows, a species-rich meadow and a pond all add interest, making this an attractive new site for the local community and a haven for wildlife.
Oldlands Copse is managed in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) for the benefit of the local community and wildlife. SWT looks after the site on a day-to day-basis and runs community events.

This Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) was established in 2022-3. The purpose of this and other local SANGs is to avoid increased recreational pressure on the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) from new residential development by providing alternative recreation areas that offer a similar experience to the SPA.
The land was formerly agricultural fields that came out of arable production in 2020. Following establishment of the SANG the site is being managed in accordance with a SANG management plan, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
The Land Trust took over responsibility for Oldlands Copse in October 2023 and manages the site in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust, which undertakes the day-to-day site management.
Surrey Wildlife Trust is working in partnership with The Land Trust to maximise the benefits for the local community from this important public greenspace. Current and future management seeks to enhance the biodiversity and recreational value of the site.
