Ash Green Meadows

This open area of former agricultural land comprises Ash Green Meadows in the western part, characterised by semi-improved damp grassland, and a number of improved grassland fields in the east. Scattered Oak trees within the eastern fields create a pleasant parkland character and mature wooded strips, hedgerows, scrub and seasonal ponds add to the rural atmosphere of the site. A number of footpaths provide opportunities for enjoyable circular and short walks and wildlife spotting.

Bookhurst Wood

This lovely 15 hectare ancient semi-natural woodland near Cranleigh, Surrey, has large areas of old hazel and hornbeam coppice with mature oak standards, birch, ash willow and aspen that provide interest throughout the year. The bluebells in spring are a particular highlight.

Buckler’s Forest

Set amongst large areas of forest with open grasslands, heathlands and wetlands, this striking site has been created on land that was previously part of the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). Elements of its fascinating past and the transport research that once took place here can now be seen imaginatively repurposed across the site for all to enjoy. With plenty of space for both wildlife and people, the site has wide surfaced tracks - perfect for walking, running or cycling.

Eashing Fields

This open countryside site was created in 2020 on two former agricultural fields. Mature tree belts and hedgerows along the site boundary were enhanced with the creation of areas of species-rich woodland and grassland to provide exciting new wildlife habitats. The site creation works also included a new car park, pathways, information boards and benches for visitors. Access is currently via Public Rights of Way only. Open access will be available in summer 2021.

Horsley Meadows

Formerly agricultural fields, enjoy a circular stroll through these restored grassland and wildflower meadows set amongst veteran oak trees and experience the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of spending time in the great outdoors and among nature. This Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) was established in 2020 to avoid increased recreational pressure on the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) from new residential development by providing alternative recreation areas that offer a similar experience to the SPA.

Little Heath Meadow

This open meadow adjoining the oak and birch woodland of Little Heath Common includes hedgerows, scattered trees, ditches and a pond. It is a great place for a peaceful short walk or a longer circular walk extending into the surrounding countryside. The adjoining Chobham Pet Cemetery established in 1932 is well worth a visit for its historical interest.

Runfold Ridge

This sloping rural green space was established in 2020 on former arable farmland. Fine elevated views across the wider landscape, existing woodland copses and native hedgerows, new native woodland, shrub and hedgerow planting, and a new species-rich meadow make this an attractive new site for local people and wildlife.

Weyburn Meadows

This tranquil rural site bordering the River Wey has open wet grassland in the north and semi-improved grassland in the south. Hedgerows, treelines and woodland add to its diverse character and circular walking routes, pathways and a boardwalk enable enjoyable access all year round.
