Green Angels

Background

In 2013, The Land Trust successfully secured a grant from BIG Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme to develop its ‘Green Angels’ project. This grant funded two new roles; to deliver the project over a two year period and to engage with the community, creating new learning opportunities including: countryside management; parks maintenance; business skills; environmental education and horticulture.

Achievements

After two great years at Liverpool Festival Gardens the BIG Lottery funded Green Angels project finished at the end of October 2015.  This project engaged over 300 local residents at 30 community events, helping to create a sense of pride and ownership in this unique space.  Nearly 70 people took part in specific courses and out of those actively seeking work, 44% found employment.  People of all ages have attended our courses to meet new friends, learn new skills and challenge their futures.  We have also supported a small group in the development of a social enterprise trading in the skills learned through Green Angels – check out ”Grow Green”.

To find out more about Green Angels and the lasting positive effects of the project, you can find a case study here or watch the video above.
