Eight Land Trust sites awarded the coveted Green Flag Award and officially recognised amongst the country’s best parks

26th July 2023

Green space management charity, the Land Trust is celebrating after receiving a total of eight Green Flag Awards across its portfolio. Sites include Silverdale in the West Midlands, Elba Park in Sunderland, Beam Parklands in Barking, Greenwich Penninsula Ecology Park in London, Beaulieu in Essex, Hogmoor Inclosure in Hampshire, Wellesley Woodlands in Aldershot and the Countess of Chester Country Park in Cheshire.

All eight sites have achieved the accreditation – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces – which is testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it.

Nationally the scheme is celebrating as 2,216 parks – the largest number since the scheme began 27 years ago – are proudly preparing to raise their flags.

Alan Carter, Chief Executive at the Land Trust said: “We are thrilled to retain the Green Flag Award at seven of our sites and to see Hogmoor Inclosure awarded with its first accreditation. It is particularly pleasing to see residential development, Beaulieu in Essex has been awarded for a second year running. Here the management of the green space is funded by residents via an annual service charge.

“Green spaces play such an important part in the lives of local communities, as well as to wildlife and nature.

“The recognition of the Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work and commitment of the teams who manage the green spaces, including the Land Trust’s managing partners and volunteers.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at the Land Trust, including its managing partners, in achieving a Green Flag Award.

“All eight sites offer vital green space for the communities they serve and for wildlife in the area, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
