Success for the Land Trust, winning Community Project of the Year for its Green Angels project.
Last night, Land Trust colleagues and partners attended the Liverpool Echo Environment Awards Ceremony at the Isla Gladstone Conservatory in Anfield’s Stanley Park.
The awards ceremony recognised over 25 of the region’s most inspiring organisations, community groups and individuals working hard to create greener, healthier and happier places to live, work and play.
The Land Trust received success for its Green Angels’ project, winning the award for Community Project of the Year, based at Liverpool Festival Gardens.
This aim of the project was to help improve quality of life for the communities around Liverpool Festival Gardens by providing opportunities for personal development and social cohesion through engagement, training and participation in practical environmental projects.
The project engaged with over 300 people and held over 30 community events.
Nearly 70 people took part in the specific training courses, and out of those actively seeking work, 44% found employment.
Carolyn Hassall, the Land Trust’s Green Angels Project Manager said “The project has really brought local communities and people together. It’s allowed participants to meet new people, make new friends and find a common bond which has helped improve community cohesion around Liverpool Festival Gardens. I’m delighted that this project has been recognised for its success and all the hard work put in by everyone involved.”

The Land Trust was also successful with Port Sunlight River Park being shortlisted for the Neighbourhood Improvement Project.
Port Sunlight River Park has undergone a tremendous journey from a landfill site closed off from public access to a community park providing a wildlife haven, public walkways and stunning views of the Liverpool’s iconic skyline.
For residents and visitors, the possibilities are endless. Port Sunlight River Park is now a haven of buzzing activity for hikers, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists. It provides a wonderful setting for children to play, for people to socialise, for families to picnic and for community groups to meet.
Local charity Autism Together, formerly known as Wirral Autistic Society, manages the site on the Land Trust’s behalf and its team are succeeding in ensuring Port Sunlight River Park thrives as an enticing, exciting venue.
