A group of VINSPIRE students from Barking & Dagenham College have been hard at work at Beam Parklands recently, supporting the ranger team in giving the site a thorough makeover.
As part of their work experience they were at the park over a number of weeks, carrying out all sorts of practical tasks.
They have tackled invasive bramble, removed bulrush and Himalayan balsam from the ponds and Wantz stream, installed new bird and bat boxes, and cut back areas of dense scrub.
Community Ranger Sonya Kavanagh says, “Their efforts have been absolutely amazing and are helping to improve biodiversity at Beam Parklands as well as giving them the chance to learn new skills.”
Volunteering is a great way to support your local community, get some fresh air and meet new people. Find your local space here: https://thelandtrust.org.uk/visit-our-spaces/ and contact the ranger to find out how you can help out.
