13th September 2017 : 1.30 - 2.30pm
A weekly, Wednesday afternoon Nordic Walking session that is open to everyone. The group is supported by a certified Nordic Walking Instructor. The distance, pace and technical level are all set individually to suit those who take part. No previous experience is necessary. The duration of the activity will normally be 50 minutes and consist of warm up, instruction, practice and warm down.
The country park provides an escape to the countryside and there are links to canal towpaths and public footpaths that are used to form varied, looped routes. Well-surfaced and fully accessible paths are used, with few slopes. Nordic Walking poles are provided for you free of charge. Booking is required as equipment is limited in number. Please contact TCV as shown to book your place. Please advise if you can bring your own walking poles. A 6-week course of step-by-step instruction is provided, followed by support over a further 6 weeks of Nordic Walking, if you sign up to the Nature4Health programme at the start.
We encourage you to opt in to the 12-week Nature4Health programme and research study that helps you to a healthier, more active lifestyle and gathers data to evidence the benefits of regular physical activity in natural green spaces for physical and mental wellbeing.
The session is also part of the International Nordic Walking Federation Scheme.
Wear comfortable, layered clothing that allows free movement of arms and legs. Wear suitable trainers or walking shoes (walking boots can lack sufficient flexibility). You might want to bring a change of footwear. Bring a waterproof jacket according to the weather forecast. A bottle of water is suggested.
Public toilets are not available nearby but arrangements can be made with the public house or hospital nearby.
We meet up at the Countess of Chester Country Park car park, off Countess Court / Valley Drive, Chester CH1 4ED
Fully accessible routes are available from the meeting up point that are tarmac-surfaced and mainly level with few slopes. There is a regular bus service (No 15) that stops outside the country park. The nearest railway station is at Bache, approximately 800m from the country park.
Car parking is available and is free of charge. Located off Countess Court / Valley Drive CH1 4ED
