Residents plant 2,000 new trees at Countess of Chester Country Park

Over 200 people dug deep at Countess of Chester Country Park last weekend (Saturday 21st January) to plant 2,000 new trees.

They helped all sorts of species take root, including English oak, Beech, Silver birch, Hornbeam, Downy birch and Alder, creating a new area of woodland that will benefit wildlife and people for generations to come.

Supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council, TCV, the Friends of the Countess of Chester Country Park, the Land Trust and The Mersey Forest, the event was a wonderful example of people taking action to support their local green space. Further tree planting activities will take place in the coming weeks, with local schools and Green Gym volunteers also getting stuck in.

Local ward member, Cllr Matt Bryan, who is a member of The Mersey Forest Steering Group, used his Members’ budget to support the project. He commented: “It was a great turn out – well done all involved!”
