New positions available at Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership

Want to get involved with the management of Wellesley Woodlands and similar sites? Two exciting positions at Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership have become available.

Countryside  Ranger

£19,455 – £21,897 per annum
Ash Lock Cottage, Aldershot
37 hours per week, Permanent

You will be responsible for the day to day management of the Wellesley Woodlands, 110ha of public green space, as well as working with the rest of the Blackwater Valley ranger team on the management of other sites in and around the Valley.
Your duties will include practical habitat management, public access, safety checks, supervising assistant rangers and volunteers. You will also be involved in the implementation, monitoring and up-dating of management plans for those sites directly under your management. You are also responsible for recording tasks and projects carried out on sites.

Countryside Assistant Ranger

£15,621 – £17,583 per annum
Ash Lock Cottage, Aldershot
37 hours per week, Temporary contract (12 months)

The Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership is working closely with local communities to improve the green spaces between the busy urban areas on the Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire borders. The Valley is already well used by local people and wildlife but it is at an exciting period as opportunities provided by new developments and site restoration are creating many new green spaces that need looking after.
Your role will be to carry out a wide range of practical conservation tasks in support of a small ranger team and volunteers. It will include frequent footpath maintenance by vegetation control and litter picking with waymarking, installing benches and gates. Habitat management will include tasks such as mowing, tree removal and planting. The post requires a willingness to take on a wide range of support functions such as maintenance of hand and power tools.
With flexible approach to work, you’ll be willing to work, outdoors or in, in a team or on your own, and work occasional weekends. You will possess good interpersonal skills and be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role, have a basic level of certification in the use of machinery such as chainsaws, brushcutters and mowers. You will possess a full driving licence.
