New Lubbesthorpe wins Infrastructure Project of the Year award

16th November 2018

New Lubbesthorpe, site of the first Sustainable Urban Extension in Leicestershire, has won Infrastructure Project of the Year at the ProCon Leicestershire awards.

The ProCon awards are the county’s biggest celebration of the latest and best developments in Leicestershire. At a ceremony hosted by King Power Stadium, New Lubbesthorpe was recognised for the infrastructure in place since construction began, including a new bridge over the M1 and new road network.

Extensive work has also been undertaken, including a foul drainage system with pumping stations, sustainable urban drainage scheme including ponds, and public open spaces.

New Lubbesthorpe will be built over the next 20 years and have 4,250 homes on completion. 873 homes will be classed as ‘affordable’ with nearly 200 properties completed.

Featuring over 300 acres of open space, New Lubbesthorpe will also have a district centre with community, health and leisure facilities as well a secondary school and two primary schools. The first primary school is under construction and set to open in September 2019.

The Land Trust will take on the management of the green space in 2019.

New Lubbesthorpe has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2019 LGC Awards for best Housing Initiative nationally, with the winner announced in March.

Councillor Sheila Scott, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing Strategy, Economic & Community Development, said: “To be recognised by industry experts for the work taking place at New Lubbesthorpe is fantastic, and we are delighted to win this award.

“I am proud of the hard work and commitment of our partners and officers to ensure a sustainable development for the residents of New Lubbesthorpe and the district.”
