Today (22nd October) Greenwich Millennium Village formally opened its brand new large scale 3,480sqm² (37,458 sq ft) children’s eco play park. Managed by national land management charity, the Land Trust, the new play area enhances the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park, which is home to many different species of wildlife, and gives the residents of the village the opportunity for adventure and activity.
Comprising a log walk, cross-beam balance trail, climbing tower, mast activity net, embankment slide, a living willow tunnel, timber team swing and two insect hotels, the entire Eco Park has been constructed using natural and reclaimed materials, providing a place for pollinators and pest controllers to nest and shelter. The materials used include timber, willow, York stone, and bark mulch. The planting of wildflowers and new trees also complements the existing shrubbery and mature trees.
Speaking on behalf of the joint venture partners behind the development, Countryside and Taylor Wimpey, Chris Bladon, Managing Director of Countryside comments: “Greenwich Millennium Village is an innovative village within the city, providing not only a home for its residents but also a community to be a part of. Creating a safe and fun area for the young residents and also the public to play has always been a key part of our plans, so we are delighted that the eco play park is now open to everyone. Designed as an extension to the fantastic Ecology Park, this will be the perfect playground to encourage children to come outside and explore their new environment.”

Situated on the bank of the Thames, Greenwich Millennium Village is one of the most exciting and innovative residential neighbourhoods in Europe and is already home to a thriving and established community. It is also only a short walk from the O2 and its abundance of restaurants and bars.
Locally there is an extensive range of facilities too, including The Millennium Primary School and a nursery for children up to age 4 – ‘Millennium Minis’, as well as a health centre, local retail park and an IMAX Cinema. There are also excellent transport links via road, tube and river, should you need to venture out of the village.
