Land Trust appoints Head of Environment and Biodiversity

3rd April 2023

Green space management charity, the Land Trust today announces the promotion of Joe Heath to Head of Environment and Biodiversity.

Joe has worked for the organisation for eight years, starting out on a work experience placement, before officially beginning his career as a Graduate Development Officer in 2014.

Joe has primarily focused on endowment funded site acquisitions and has been instrumental in acquiring the sites which make up a 300 hectare portfolio of SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space).

Joe’s role will remain within the Business Development team and will focus on generating sustainable income from new and existing sites across England. Alongside continuing with various new SANG sites, he will also specifically handle the acquisition of environmental sites including land providing Nutrient Mitigation and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

Recently, Joe has focussed his efforts on establishing the Land Trust’s model for the delivery of onsite and offsite BNG. He is speculatively working on deals/projects covering over 900 Biodiversity Units.

Joe will also oversee the delivery of the organisation’s Biodiversity, Environment and Ecology (BEE) strategy which aims to tackle climate change, and ease pressures on vulnerable wildlife.

Joe commented: “The development industry is currently facing a range of challenges. From demonstrating sustainability credentials to preparing for mandatory BNG regulations which are due to come into force later this year. I look forward to working with both new and existing clients across all sectors to deliver BNG solutions which not only do the job of protecting and enhancing the local environment and biodiversity – but which are also structured as commercially as possible.”
