Green Flag Awards success at the Land Trust

21st July 2016

We are delighted to announce that Land Trust site Beam Parklands in Dagenham has been awarded Green Flag status with both Elba Park and Greenwich Ecology Park maintaining the high standards required to retain Green Flag status previously awarded.

The Green Flag Awards are judged by more than 700 green space experts who volunteer to visit sites and assess them against strict criteria including sustainability, cleanliness, horticultural standards and level of community involvement.  The announcement comes as the Land Trust celebrates Love Parks Week, the time to celebrate the parks and green spaces that we love and to recognise all of the hard work done across the country to protect and maintain them.

Beam Parklands

The Land Trust led the transformation of Beam Parklands from a flood prevention area into an award winning, multi-use community space.  Managed in partnership with London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, this 53-hectare functional flood prevention area has been turned into an innovative multi award-winning space that provides significant community benefits and is helping regenerate a deprived area.

Elba Park

Elba Park is a regeneration success story – one of the most contaminated sites in the North East has now become one of the best green spaces in the country, earning three prestigious Green Flag awards previously. The park, alongside a new housing development, is a flourishing green space managed by Groundwork North East and has been a major selling point for the 300+ new homes.  The park has also added value to the development and has become a thriving space, well used and appreciated by the local communities and wildlife alike.

Greenwich Ecology Park

Greenwich Ecology Park, managed by TCV, was developed as part of the early phase of decontamination and regeneration of the peninsula to recreate and re-establish part of the original marshland heritage and provide an asset for the local community. It is now a thriving urban oasis, providing a haven for wildlife and serving as a key ecological site within a major redevelopment area.
