The Land Trust wins Green Business Award at the Cheshire Business Awards 2016

11th October 2016

The Land Trust, the national land management charity based in Warrington, has won the Green Business Award at the Cheshire Business Awards 2016.

Presented at a ceremony at Chester Cathedral on Friday 7th October, the award celebrates excellence in green practice and recognises an organisation that makes a positive contribution to the environment.

The Land Trust has a portfolio of more than 60 green spaces across the country, totalling more than 2,000 hectares. Many of these spaces were formerly derelict areas of land – collieries, landfill sites, wastelands – and have been transformed into beautiful, thriving spaces, such as country parks, nature reserves and community woodlands. Among its Cheshire sites are the Countess of Chester Country Park in Chester, Port Sunlight River Park in Wirral and over 300 green spaces and parks across Warrington. More recently, sites have included the management of green spaces around new residential developments.

Representing the Land Trust on the evening were: Alan Carter, Director of Portfolio Management; Sarah Palgrave-Neath, Estates Manager North; and Ian Betteley, Group Finance Change Manager.

Alan said: “We’re delighted to be recognised our commitment to open spaces in the county and across England. We work hard to find funding solutions to sustainably manage and improve local green spaces for the long-term, giving communities opportunities to connect with nature and learn about the benefits of looking after the environment.

“Our spaces also have a crucial part in the social landscape, delivering health benefits through initiatives such as the Health for Life programme, reducing anti-social behaviour and building community cohesion by being publicly accessible environments.”

Michael Green, Executive Editor at the Chester Chronicle, added: “Trinity Mirror Cheshire is extremely proud to host this event for the thirteenth successive year and are proud to be associated with a terrific group of sponsors: Barlows UK, Bentley, ScottishPower, NatWest and Liverpool John Lennon Airport and of course our huge thanks go to key partners SAS Daniels LLP who have supported this event magnificently in the past few years.

“We are delighted with the quality and quantity of entries this year and this year’s awards celebrate the best of the best in terms of the companies and the people who have helped grow prosperity and confidence in this region. We salute those who have made it on the shortlist alongside each and every company and individual who has driven transformation, prosperity and confidence in our region.”
