Green Angel takes off

2nd February 2016

Shimeirra makes plans to launch her own gardening and landscape business, as a result of taking part in the Land Trust's Green Angel's training programme.

Following the Land Trust’s successful Green Angels training programme, based at Liverpool Festival Gardens from 2013 until 2015, where nearly 70 people took part – nearly half of those looking for employment have been successful.

As well as finding roles in organisations, many have gained the confidence to set up on their own.

One of these is Shimeirra Eden-Beserekumo and here is her story…

After having to move out when I was 16, it was hard to find a real purpose of something to do and where I wanted to go in life.

Working with The Land Trust on The Green Angels Project, I have realized that there is a life long career working in the sector of Horticulture and with such a strong love for open spaces and wildlife, I knew it would be a strong career that I would love.

I completed the Green Angels Project in 2015 and since then, I have completed the Re-Imagining Parks Project at Everton Park, another project linked with the Land Trust.

The tutors on the Green Angels programe were great. They were so knowledgeable and knew exactly what they were doing.

Liverpool Festival Gardens is an outstanding place where people of any age can come to visit and appreciate its Landscape and so to do a course here was just fantastic.

The other Green Angels volunteers all share a common interest in the sense that we all want to improve our own skills as well as the community structure around us that is the park itself.

I would recommend anyone and everyone to take park in such a project and if it continues in Liverpool, how amazing would that be!

Shimeirra has since taken part in the Princes Trust Enterprise Programme, to help her set up her own business and along with her recent training and experience, she stands in good stead.

Her business – Edens Gardening and Landscape Service is aimed at helping customers at home and work make their own gardens more efficient and wildlife friendly.

Her passion for wanting to provide a sustainable, long term solution to green space management shines through and she is optimistic about her future career.

We wish her well!
