Fort Burgoyne hosted its first wedding which saw Emma and Vic become Mr and Mrs Casambros.
The ceremony was held in one of the historic fort’s casemates, having been transformed into a beautiful setting fit for a wedding.
This is the first time the fort has played host to a wedding, having been built in the 1860s to protect Dover Castle and used by the military until 2006.
The Land Trust took ownership of Fort Burgoyne and its surroundings in 2014 and began restoring the historic landmark to enable the site to benefit the local community and enhance biodiversity in the area.
Vic and Emma had their wedding plans changed due to Covid-19, after their original venues closed due to the pandemic.
“We didn’t want a bog standard wedding. Our guests really loved the incredibly unique venue.”
Following the intimate ceremony in one of the fort’s casemates, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed their reception at the fort, including a fantastic disco space which was set up on the former parade-ground.
It is hoped that this wedding will be the first of many at Fort Burgoyne as local company Diamond Circle Weddings will be organising couples’ special days at this unique venue.
As restoration works continue at the fort, more opportunities to see and experience this historic space are set to arise. Volunteer sessions have now resumed and Diamond Circle are offering guided tours of the fort along with Afternoon Tea.

Volunteering - great for team work – especially with people you might not interact with in your usual role. Great exercise – felt like a good activity outside in the sunshine!
