The Land Trust’s Green Angels programme, at Liverpool Festival Gardens, and Port Sunlight River Park have both made shortlists for the Echo Environment Awards.
The green-focused awards, organised by the Liverpool Echo in association with United Utilities, have been established to recognise the best environmental businesses, schools, community, projects and individuals.
Green Angels, which has made the ‘Community Project Award’ shortlist, was a Big Lottery-funded programme, provided by green space management charity the Land Trust, seeking to boost the quality of life for local peoples by providing fresh environmental training opportunities and community events.
Last year 28 people from a wide range of backgrounds across Liverpool benefited from completing career-enhancing courses at Festival Gardens that included Countryside Management and Parks Maintenance, Business Skills, Environmental Education and Horticulture.
Meanwhile, Port Sunlight River Park has been shortlisted for the ‘Neighbourhood Improvement Project Award’.
Previously a landfill site hemmed off from the community, the site was transformed and opened to the public in 2014 by the Land Trust. The park has since gone from strength to strength, becoming a popular destination for residents and visitors and haven for wildlife, managed by Autism Together on behalf of the Land Trust.
An awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 28 April where winners will be announced, at the Isla Gladstone venue at Liverpool’s historic Stanley Park. Find more about the awards scheme here: http://www.eventsnorthwest.co.uk/echo-environment-awards/
