Fort Burgoyne benefits from Coastal Revival Fund

Fort Burgoyne in Dover has been provided with a £48,400 grant from the Coastal Revival Fund.

Funding was secured for the ancient fort, which is owned and managed by national land management charity the Land Trust, following a successful bid to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Dover District Council will take receipt of the funds as the designated accountable body and support the Land Trust as it uses the funds to carry out feasibility work on a fort built in the 1860s.

Iain Taylor, Director of Business Development for the Land Trust, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received this grant from the Coastal Revival Fund.

“The Land Trust is a charity focused on providing sustainable long-term solutions for land and delivering fantastic projects, such as Fort Burgoyne, that seek to unlock benefits for local people. This funding provides a real boost for these aims and aspirations.”

The Land Trust acquired Fort Burgoyne from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in 2014. It is not currently open to the public but work is ongoing to realise the potential of the 42 hectare site for community benefit.
