Frickley Country Park is a remarkable landscape-scale restoration project located near South Elmsall in West Yorkshire. Once the site of the former Frickley Colliery, which closed in 1993, the area has been transformed into a thriving natural environment that delivers lasting benefits for wildlife, local communities and the wider region. Following extensive remediation works, the park came into Land Trust management in 2012.
Purchasing Units from Frickley will contribute towards the restoration and enhancement of Open Mosaic Habitat, Lowland Mixed Deciduous Woodland, species-rich neutral grasslands and ditches across the site. Furthermore, it will unlock additional community benefit, for example, from our Green Angels programme.
Frickley Country Park is within the Wildlife Habitat Network, features Habitats of Principal Importance and is designated a Local Wildlife Site. Units purchased from Frickley will assist in supporting landscape-scale nature recovery to be enjoyed by the public for many generations to come with all habitats being retained in perpetuity, not just for 30 years.
Green Angels sessions are also hosted at Frickley, a free volunteering and community centric upskilling programme.
