A major new natural greenspace will support nature, preventable health, wellbeing and sustainable living for one of Buckinghamshire’s largest new communities.
The Land Trust is delighted to announce the successful completion of a collaboration agreement with leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey for the delivery and long-term management of the Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) at Hampden Fields in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
The landmark project represents a significant milestone for both organisations and will create a major new natural greenspace spanning 62 hectares. Integrated within the wider 3,000-home Hampden Fields development, the SANG will play a vital role in providing ecological mitigation while delivering lasting environmental, health and wellbeing benefits for residents and visitors alike.
Designed to grow alongside the new community, the greenspace will feature a network of paths that encourage active travel both within the development and to surrounding areas. Residents will also benefit from an extensive Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS), creating seasonal ponds that enhance the landscape while supporting local wildlife and water management.
Newly planted hedgerows will complement and strengthen the area’s existing landscape character, while meadow areas will provide increasing ecological interest and biodiversity value as they establish and mature over time.
The project is being delivered in phases, with the first 42 hectares already currently under construction. Soft landscaping works are scheduled to be completed during the winter of 2026/27, after which Taylor Wimpey will undertake a 12-month establishment and aftercare period. The site is then expected to transfer into Land Trust management in early 2028.
The wider Hampden Fields development is expected to be built over approximately ten years, allowing the greenspace to evolve alongside the community it is designed to serve.
