This once privately-owned woodland opened to the public in 2026 and includes a 2.3km circular walk (incorporating the 1875 Locke King obelisk), informal paths, waymarking and a section of shared use cycleway. Varied paths meander through extensive woodland with Sweet Chestnut, Oak, Silver Birch, Beech, Sycamore and Hornbeam trees. More unusual trees can also be spotted including Wellingtonia, Holm Oak and Turkey Oak.
Brooklands Wood is managed in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) for the benefit of the local community and wildlife. SWT looks after the site on a day-to day-basis and runs community events. For wildlife views and news sign up here to receive the nature news e-newsletter. Brooklands Grove is a new development of 320 homes in Weybridge, Surrey built by Cala Homes in 2025/26 on land that was formerly part of Brooklands College. The development includes the provision of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) comprising new areas of public open space and the opening up of Brooklands Wood to the public for the first time.
The purpose of this and other local SANGs is to avoid increased recreational pressure on the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) from new residential development by providing alternative recreation areas that offer a similar experience to the SPA. Following establishment of the SANG the site is being managed in accordance with a SANG management plan, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
The Land Trust took over responsibility for Brooklands Wood in January 2026 and manages the site in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust, which undertakes the day-to-day site management.
Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) looks after the site on a day-to day-basis and runs community events.
