Bentley Community Woodland

A tranquil woodland in Doncaster on the site of the former Bentley Colliery

Bentley Community Woodland was established after the closure of Bentley Colliery in 1993. The site was one of the first projects taken on by the Land Trust in 2004, following its inclusion in the National Coalfield Programme in 1998 and subsequent remediation.

Today, the 12-hectare site features a vibrant woodland, a wetland designed by local children, and diverse wildlife, including wildfowl and seasonal migrants. With three miles of trails and a hilltop sculpture, it’s a peaceful retreat in the heart of Doncaster, showcasing the positive impact of long-term community involvement and sustainable management.
