Nomination for Best Friends of/Community Group
Braeburn Park
The volunteers at Braeburn Park Nature Reserve are extremely dedicated, keen, reliable,
and responsive; they have achieved a great amount of positive change to the habitats, paths
and overall feel of the site. No ask is too great, they also step up to challenges which may
arise and are very passionate about their local reserve. They have recently taken forward
the long-awaited butterfly transect walk at the reserve, improving knowledge of the reserve's
nature and learning new skills at the same time.
They are a great, dependable team who work well together, whatever the task and the
weather.
The Avenue Country Park Team
Jenn Slade has managed to form a completely new Friends of/ group from the local
community, inspired them to come out and work on the site and already they are becoming
semi-autonomous by going out one Sunday a month as a team and frequently in the week
as individuals or in pairs.
Jenn has offered them training, support, constant enthusiasm and gratitude and they are
blossoming under her supervision.
They are all local residents who feel empowered to care for their local patch, now showing
much initiative and coming up with ideas of their own to make managing the country park a
real team effort between DWT, the Land Trust and local people.
Friends of Countess of Chester Country Park
This group is a pleasure to work alongside, a dynamic mix of ages who just love the park,
nature and the park visitors.
