The UK’s premier green space management charity, the Land Trust, looks back on a successful 2023/24, with a 14% increase in social value delivery across its growing portfolio of sites, totalling an estimated £38.7million.
The Land Trust has taken management of five new sites, including two service charge sites and three SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace), bringing the total of sites to 86, covering an area of over 2,500 hectares.
With an estimated 2.4 million visitors, the sites saw a 34% increase in volunteering, which helps to enhance local habitats, improve health and wellbeing, and develop new skills. Additionally, there were 542 one-off or seasonal events and a remarkable 217% rise in mental health-related activities, providing local communities with an invaluable resource.
The Land Trust review outlines the year’s significant charitable delivery across all of its five key areas: health, education, community cohesion, the environment and biodiversity, and the economy.
