Port Sunlight
River Park
WINNER Port Sunlight River Park is now an
Most amazing 28 ha country park on the
improved banks of the Mersey. An oasis of
Space calm alongside this famous industrial
river, the park has recorded over 80
species of birds amongst its meadows
and wetlands in only six months.
Opened in August 2014 by local MP Alison
McGovern, this remodelled former landfll
site now provides access to valuable
green space for the nearby communities
in Wirral and has opened up previously
inaccessible views of Liverpool’s historic
waterfront. The park is managed for the
Land Trust by Wirral Autistic Society and
17 WALKING GROUPS provides practical volunteering sessions
for young adults on the autistic spectrum.
VISITED PORT SUNLIGHT RIVER PARK BETWEEN The ranger and many of these volunteers
have now developed a weekly ‘health walk’
OCTOBER 2014 & MARCH 2015 and the site is part of the Wirral Walking
Festival which takes place each May.
OVER 9,500 HEALTH ACTIVITIES TOOK PLACE ON OUR SITES IN
2014/15 INCLUDING WOODLAND WORKOUTS,
GREEN GYMS, NORDIC WALKING AND BUGGY FIT.
