Mindenhurst is a new neighbourhood of 1,200 homes in Deepcut, Surrey built by Skanska on land that was formerly part of the Princess Royal Barracks. The development includes the provision of 38 hectares of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) comprising areas of public open space and extensive woodlands.
Branded collectively as Mindenhurst Park, the Park encompasses various zones including Central SANG, Southern SANG, SANGs Link and the Green Swathe, as well as the village green with its large wildlife pond and play area.
The purpose of this and other local SANGs is to avoid increased recreational pressure on the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) from new residential development by providing alternative recreation areas that offer a similar experience to the SPA. Following establishment of the SANG the site is being managed in accordance with a SANG management plan, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
The Land Trust took over responsibility for Mindenhurst Park in November 2025 and manages the site in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust, which undertakes the day-to-day site management.
Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) looks after the site on a day-to day-basis and runs community events.
