Winner announced for Land Trust’s 2019 photography competition

4th December 2019

After receiving over 200 entries the winner of the Land Trust’s annual photography competition has been chosen. A stunning photograph taken at New Park Springs, Grimethorpe, by Steve Milner was voted as the winner by Facebook users.

The winning photograph will form the front cover of the Land Trust’s 2020 calendar and will feature as November’s image. Steve receives £100 in photography vouchers as his winning prize.

Euan Hall, Chief Executive of the Land Trust, said:

“Congratulations to Steve on winning this year’s competition and a huge thank you to everyone who entered photographs.

“We set the theme of Land Trust in Colour this year so people could capture our sites from different perspectives and shades, which this image certainly does.

“My colleagues and I have loved looking through all of the entries which capture people’s experiences in our green spaces throughout the year. It’s been great to see how our 75 sites have had a positive impact on people and the beautiful images they have snapped.”

The Land Trust shared twelve shortlisted entries on their Facebook page and asked the public to choose their favourite entry by liking and sharing the photos. Steve’s photograph was the runaway winner, receiving 239 likes and 128 shares.

He took the photograph in late August at New Park Springs and speaking to the Land Trust about the image, he said: “It had been a hot day and me and my dad had left it late to walk our dogs so it was a bit cooler.

“Luckily the sunset put on quite a show that day and seeing as I always take my camera to capture any images of wildlife, it seemed a perfect opportunity to take this picture!”

In addition to the winning photograph, all 12 shortlisted photographs will feature in the calendar, which will be released shortly.
