Proposal - new Heritage Visitors Centre at Port Sunlight River Park

11th May 2016

The Land Trust is delighted with the success of Port Sunlight River Park and the number of visitors to the site is increasing all the time. On-going consultation and feedback has consistently highlighted the need for a visitor centre and we are now inviting your views on the matter.

The Land Trust and managing partner Autism Together are hoping to convert the existing site building of Port Sunlight River Park into a Heritage Visitor Centre open to the wide range of people we welcome to the park every day.

The facility will provide a café and shop with an outdoor covered verandah and entrance, a multipurpose space to facilitate a range of exciting activities, separate space for a kitchenette, staff toilets and an office, a serving hatch and public toilets with external access.

The café and shop will sell drinks and snacks, with a view to enhancing the range of fare on offer in line with customer demand.  The outlet would also sell park merchandise and literature related to the park, the local area and topics related to this and other natural settings.

The Port Sunlight River Park Visitor Centre will enhance activities for groups such as schools, colleges and special interest societies, and also welcome casual visitors – runners, walkers, bird watchers – providing another aspect for an enjoyable day.

We will be applying for grant funding to implement this project, but in the meantime we would like to hear your thoughts and views about these proposals, and the kinds of activities and facilities we should provide.
