Port Sunlight River Park highly commended at 2019 Planning Awards

5th June 2019

The Land Trust’s site at Port Sunlight River Park was highly commended at the 2019 Planning Awards in the category for Promoting Economic Growth.

The Land Trust was recognised for five years of management which has transformed Port Sunlight from a closed landfill site to a 28 hectare park providing a local community space with a variety of walkways, wildlife, wildflowers and a wetlands area. In 2019 a new heritage centre and café has opened at the park thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Land Trust Chief Executive, Euan Hall, said:

“We are really pleased to see our work at Port Sunlight River Park recognised at the Planning Awards.

“Since we took on the management of the site in 2014 Port Sunlight has become a hugely valuable resource for the community, welcoming thousands of visitors a year to enjoy the green space and the fantastic views across the Mersey.

“This has had a hugely positive effect on property prices nearby while local businesses in and around the park are thriving.

“The recent opening of our new heritage centre and café will continue to build on this work as Port Sunlight River Park continues to go from strength to strength.”
