Runners put their best feet forward for Northumberlandia 5k race

27th September 2017

The Lady of the North hosted dozens of runners this summer for a day of races for all ages.

A competitive 5k trail race saw 126 participants taking on a challenging route around the landform sculpture, with Jane Hodgson of Morpeth Harriers & AC taking first place in a time of 18minutes 30 seconds. Paul Whalley of Blyth RC was second in 18minutes 41 seconds and Matthew Garfitt was third in 19minutes 22seconds.

Youngsters also got to stretch their legs in a 2k race around the park.

Andy Clark of Cold Brew Events, which organised the runs, said: “This year was a huge success and we really see huge potential for this event to become a regular part of the race calendar for both serious runners and families looking for a day out.”

He also thanked the Northumberland Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers and all the marshals who worked so hard to ensure the event went smoothly.

Matt Fitch, Northumberlandia Manager, added: “Tt was fabulous to see so many people of all ages and abilities out running the course and having fun. We hope to build on the success of this year’s event and make next year’s even bigger and better. Thank you to everyone from Cold Brew Events who put on such a terrific day for everyone.”

Next year’s race takes place on Sunday 12th August and will include a competitive 5k and a 5k fun run, plus 1k and 2k junior races. Entries are open now at: www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?elid=Y&event_id=3926 and you can find out more by visiting http://www.northumberlandia.run.
