Land Trust sites to remain open as charity encourages people to get outside to look after their emotional and physical well being

19th March 2020

The Land Trust is keeping its green spaces open across the country as the charity encourages people to look after their mental and emotional wellbeing, at a time when many people are having to work from home or self-isolate.

Land Trust Chief Executive, Euan Hall, said:

“During what is an incredibly difficult time for so many people across the UK and the world, more and more people are being forced indoors.

“While it is absolutely vital that people follow the government issued guidance to stay healthy and avoid spreading Covid-19, it is also important that people’s emotional and mental wellbeing is considered during what could be a very long and difficult period for people in this country.

“Getting outdoors is one of the best things anybody can do to keep them feeling emotionally well which is why the Land Trust will be doing everything we can to ensure that our spaces continue to operate normally during this testing time. This is reflected in comments from the UK’s Chief Medical Adviser who has said that getting some exercise and being outside is still a very good thing to do.

“While it’s likely that our organised events programme will be significantly reduced during this period we still want our communities to have access to places where they can get outdoors safely and responsibly and continue to enjoy the associated health benefits that being in nature can bring.

“We remain absolutely committed to delivering as much social impact to the communities we serve during this challenging period.”

The Land Trust manages over 80 green spaces across England and Scotland. More information on their locations and the facilities available there is available on the Land Trust website here: https://thelandtrust.org.uk/visit-land-trust-spaces

Should any individual sites face restrictions or closures we will announce this on social media. Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park is closed as it is accessed via a building, while other sites may see cafes or visitor centres closed during this time.
