Bill Hiscocks sets out vision for the Land Trust after appointment as Chair

6th January 2020

The new chair of the Land Trust, Bill Hiscocks, wants the charity to become ‘the leading green space management organisation’ in the country as the Trust looks to build on its growing portfolio of sites over the next few years.

Hiscocks, set out his ambitions for his time as Chair as he takes over from Peter Smith who retired in December following 10 years in the role.

Speaking about his vision for the Trust, Hiscocks said:

“The Land Trust celebrated its 15th birthday in 2019 and over the last decade and a half we have made tremendous progress and are now in a position where we are managing 75 sites and positively impacting millions of people’s lives each year.

“It is a great privilege to have been chosen as Chair of the Land Trust and I look forward to working with my fellow Trustees to support the Trust’s hard working and dedicated staff as we continue our great work delivering against our five key charitable objectives and working with the communities around our green spaces.

“The Land Trust is a unique organisation delivering a fantastically diverse range of work across our management portfolio and with a very strong pipeline we are continuing to add new sites all the time.

“Our placekeeping philosophy ensures that we manage these sites with the best interests of the community at heart, and in a way that benefits the local environment and biodiversity. I firmly believe that we have the skillset and potential to be recognised as the leading green space management organisation in the UK and the first choice for landowners when they are seeking an organisation to manage or take ownership of their land.”

Hiscocks takes on the role following a very successful year for the Land Trust which saw the charity transfer six new sites to management, over a million people visit one of the Trust’s green spaces and £20 million of economic and social value delivered.

Land Trust Chief Executive Euan Hall, said:

“We are delighted that Bill has taken up the role as Chair and he is a great candidate to build on the excellent work of his predecessor Peter Smith.

“Bill has served as a Trustee for five years so has an extensive knowledge of the Trust, the great work we do and also the challenges that we face.

“His background and the insight and experience he will bring will be an enormous asset to the Land Trust over the next few years.”
