We are fundraising for a fabulous educational space to inspire children and adults about wildlife, conservation, the environment - connecting them with nature and the outdoors!

Background

This space will help us deliver even more exciting and fun activities and be used to deliver environmental workshops, conservation skills training, offer volunteering opportunities and teacher training courses.

Fun activities already include pond dipping, moth trapping, wildlife walks, urban park ranger volunteer training, but this outdoor classroom will enable us to do even more!

As we are currently at full capacity, this outdoor classroom will mean we can free up our current small visitor centre building, so we can use it as a Visitor Centre and eventually a cafe too.

This means we can attract even more visitors to Greenwich Ecology Park, engage even more people with wildlife and the outdoors and be able to offer people a fantastic experience on our urban oasis!

What we will do

• Build an outdoor classroom
• Provide healthy activities during school holidays
• Offer free adult environmental education
• Offer environmental education to schools
• Attract even more visitors to this urban oasis

• Offer hands-on activities to visitors of all ages

Why it is a great idea

We already have so much support and interest at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park and it already plays a key role in the local community, being a hub for the community, providing opportunities for volunteers and offering educational opportunities.

By having a dedicated education and training facility, Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park will be able to offer even more opportunities for children, young people and adults to get back to nature, learn more about the environment in an urban setting and this all helps to increase social and health benefits and work experience.

Anyone donating to this project will be able to see it in action by visiting Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park. This outdoor classroom will be accessible for all, play a vital part in providing education about wildlife, the importance of urban wildlife centres and will be a great example of real sustainability in cities, showing what can be done to improve urban life, for people and wildlife.

How we will get it done

• By telling the many people who already visit Greenwich Ecology Park
• Sharing this vision with visitors, local communities and beyond
• Working with partners, including The Conservation Volunteers and the Friends of Greenwich Ecology Park
• Creating an exciting display at the Ecology Park’s visitor centre

This classroom will

• Accommodate up to 30 people
• Be constructed sensitively with respects to the surrounding wildlife
• Complement its natural surroundings and provide further invertebrate habitats
• Be self-sufficient and as carbon neutral as possible
• Provide its own electricity and heating through renewable and low energy technologies
