Feast of free activities at Countess of Chester

12th April 2016

People of all ages will get the chance to try out a range of free activities during an open day at the Countess of Chester Country Park showcasing all that is great about getting outdoors.

• Between 10am and 12.30pm on Thursday 21 April, the fun-packed event will feature a ‘Wildlife Connections’ informative session with Chester Zoo, a Green Gym taster session, along with a ‘Young Explorers’ mini expedition.

• From 1pm a health walk takes place around the park, encouraging people to experience the benefits of simple, regular walking. An alternative nature walk, around the same time, will put the spotlight on the site’s flourishing biodiversity.

The event has been organised to promote the enticing and highly accessible green space at Countess of Chester Country Park (next to the hospital, off Countess Way), as well as to shine a light on the calendar of activities already taking place at the site under Health for Life and Green Gym programmes.

Both health-promoting programmes part-funded by Nature4Health – a three-year project funded by The Big Lottery’s ‘Reaching Communities’ programme that aims to redress health inequalities and is co-ordinated by The Mersey Forest

Alistair Cook, Health for Life Project Officer, said: “The Countess of Chester Country Park is a fantastic setting that provides a haven of green space for everybody – from families wanting to explore its rich array of wildlife to people wanting to shed a few pounds in a fun, informal and realistic way.

“We look forward to welcoming people of all ages and capabilities to the open day. Whether you want to exercise, meet new people, have fun or are simply stuck for something to do, we will be pleased to see you.”
